“I lived my early years through my daddy’s eyes,” Dakota laughs. “He taught me to spit bubblegum juice like it was chewing tobacco. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world.”
Rough-and-tumble and more comfortable outdoors than anywhere else, Dakota found freedom and confidence around animals and wide-open land. “I looked like a boy growing up, so I acted like one,” she says with a grin. “I found peace with the animals I grew up with because they never judged me.”
Where the music began
“I loved when my mama would sing in the kitchen when we cooked. I always hoped to sing like her.”
